Who is your customer base?
Food equipment dealers and distributors serving the foodservice commercial and non-commercial segments. We know that behind every Bizerba slicer, there is an operator’s story. A story, of passion, dedication, and service to their customers. Four of the top five QSR multi-unit sandwich chain operators choose and rely on Bizerba for slicing needs – that’s well over 12,000 slicers! Commercial segments include fast-casual, quick-serve and full-service restaurants. We are often the go-to choice for restaurants, deli sandwich, and pizza shops. Hotel, lodging, hospitality and gaming facilities that run 24/7/365 often choose Bizerba for our heavy-duty equipment.
What is your latest and most interesting company innovation?
Bizerba had a bright idea to innovate and create illuminated-safety slicing machines to maximize production levels and improve operator safety in the kitchen. We help foodservice operators become more safe, efficient, and profitable. In 2018, Bizerba received the 2018 Kitchen Innovations Award for illuminated safety on both manual and automatic slicing machines. Since receiving the award in 2018, we have enjoyed significant growth in slicer sales from dealer purchases for independent restaurant operators, multiunit restaurant chains, and many K-12 school kitchens that switched to illuminated safety slicers.
How is your company making the best use of new technology?
We recently introduced new technology to our meat slicer line integrating slicing and weighing into one process. The space-saving design minimizes steps and improves slicing accuracy by slicing to weight and count. The system helps operators better control food costs per slice and it adds up to a bundle in savings. Our newest technology is a frictionless Supersmart Scan & Go consumer check out and loss prevention system that may fit a dealer’s “cash and carry” business as well as many non-commercial segments including airlines, business & industry, colleges and universities, convenience, and travel centers.
What excites you about the future of our industry?
Bizerba has a robust outlook for serving the foodservice equipment and supply dealer network. Over the past several years, Bizerba in North America has enjoyed significant growth in many of our business units. As these business units continue to grow we look at future possibilities to reinvest, such as the recently announced significant expansion to our Joppa, Md., location. Joppa will become the home of Production Center, North America, and will encompass all assembly and production functions related to Bizerba’s U.S., Canadian, Mexican, and industrial businesses. Currently, it includes designated areas to support foodservice customer’s specific programming and slicer-finishing work as well as weigh-price-labeling sub-assembly.
